I've known Christie for 5 years and we've built a great friendship. We always talked about our favorite criminal shows and had so much in common. She has helped me in a lot of things in my own personal life and I will forever be grateful for her. I truly miss you everyday Christie. Del, I am so sorry for your loss. She truly loved and cherished you.

I was lucky to have gotten to know Christie at Lutheran. She would coming onto the unit, all smiles. Greeting everyone. Personality plus, brilliant NP& I watched as shed go to her cardiac patients to see them in pre-admission testing. I always knew she was still there because of that one of a kind laugh. The patients getting ready for major open heart surgery, usually the next day, were putty in her hands. She was a master educator who could put anyone at ease. They loved her. Her compassion was genuine, endless and they felt that. She just lit up talking about her sweet husband Del. Her times that she got to slip away to Arizona, she loved those. I remember the day she came in wearing new red glasses and I told her how cute they were, she whipped them off to show me the tiny high heels on the end of the ear pieces & just giggled. We all miss you Christie Kanka, its just too quiet around here

Christie, my funniest cousin, the one who would make milk shoot out our noses during family dinners. The howling laughter coming from the kids table during those get-togethers cemented the fact that the coolest place to be was cramped in the basement, smashed around folding card tables with Christie holding center court. She was, and remains, one of the quickest wits I have ever known, and a thorough superstar-smarty-pants to boot. She took me to see Escape from Witch Mountain when I was 6. Such a big deal to me, I can still remember sitting next to her in the theater, my big cousin, who didnt want me to feel left out because I was too young to join the rest of our cousins in whatever movie they were seeing. I would guess that Christie had long forgotten taking me to that movie- as perhaps the long list of patients that she cared for over the years had likely blurred- but I would bet money that most of those patients remember her. You all know what Im talking about Christie was filled with joie de vivre! She was effervescent and compassionate and smart and beautiful and funny and kind and, my sweet, sweet cousin, so very much loved.

I had the privilege of working with Christie at Lutheran Medical Center. I was a new graduate nurse on the heart floor and I remember her always walking into the unit with her bright, bubbly spirit. She could light up a patients room instantly on a difficult day, or brighten yours if you were having a rough shift. Christie was the Nurse Practitioner you wanted, she went above any expectation of patient care and made sure her patients were in the best of hands. She was responsive and never belittled you as a nurse, always made you feel part of her team. The heart center and Lutheran are losing a big piece of their program, she was the heart of their program. She will be missed and I will always remember her and keep her in my heart! Thank you Christie for being there for me and helping me grow as a nurse, I will forever appreciate and miss you!
