Obituary of Daniel Orlando Chacon

Tribute Daniel Orlando Chacon May 3, 1939 - March 29, 2022 (age 82) Dan passed away peacefully, on March 29, 2022, in Longmont, CO. He was born in Walsenburg on May 3rd, 1939, to Cora and Eulalio Chacon. He was one of 11 kids. He eventually joined the Navy where he served from 1957 to 1961 on a ship. He joked about being afraid of the water and couldn't't swim. Both are true. After the Navy, he moved to Denver and married. His family grew to 5 children. He worked for the United States Postal Service his entire career, and he also did side concrete work. He eventually ended up in Louisville, CO, where some of his kids followed him and they all settled there in the surrounding areas since 1983. He was a devoted father and loved spending time with his kids, whether it was fishing, camping, playing pool, dancing, listening to live music, playing dominoes or traveling. He loved watching the Rockies and football. His favorite football team is the Raiders. He absolutely hated The Denver Broncos (even thought he once held season tickets) and loved to start friendly arguments with anyone that was a Bronco's fan. Dan was a popular and handsome man, who rarely met a stranger. Everywhere he went, he knew someone. After retirement from the United States Postal Service, he continued doing all the things he loved to do, including joining a pool league with one of his daughters. Dan was preceded in death by his beloved girlfriend, Mary Puente, whom he lovingly helped care for until she passed away in 1986, his parents, and his brothers, Arnold, John and Paul Chacon. He is survived by his children April Mestas (Steve), Robin Chacon, Daniel Chacon (Marya), Charlie Salazar (Benny*) and Sally Gonzales (Ben). He had 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Laura, Larry, Liz, Marie, Tom, Rick and Jenny as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to TRU Community Care and especially to Rebecca Delaney.
