Obituary of Julie Ellen Tufts

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother and a friend to many.

Julie Ellen Tufts was born to Jean Murphy Cottier and Richard Allen Cottier on January 19, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Lutheran West high school and graduated in 1972 and then attended Gogebic Community College and graduated with her LPN license in 1983. 

Before her move to Michigan she worked at St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. This is where she found her passion for patient care. In Michigan she served as a devoted home health care nurse at Caring Inc. She also served as the Director of Gogebic Range Hospice, and a member of the Gogebic Jaycettes. Julie serviced to her community in many ways not only in healthcare but also as a volunteer at Theatre North and Ironwood Theater. 

In the early 2000’s Julie moved to Rochester Minnesota, where she continued to volunteer at the Rochester Civic Theater and as a board member of the Olmsted Community Action Committee. Always an advocate she spoke before the Senate and Governor in Saint Paul, Minnesota, about her concerns regarding the care of the disabled. In Rochester she was also worked at Hobby Lobby, and she served with her local Church’s Disaster Response Team after hurricane Rita in Louisiana. 

In 2014, she moved to Longmont, Colorado where she was an active member of Longmont Calvary   church. Julie remained an avid crafter, churchgoer and could be seen all around town with her loyal companion Bristol until her death. 

Preceded in deaths by her parents; Richard Allen Cottier, Jean Murphy Cottier, and brother; James Edward Cottier. She is survived by her daughters; Renee Dawn Tufts, Sharleen Marie Tufts, grandson; Evan Cecil McCoy and extended family Eve Cottier, Kelly Marie Cottier, and Richard Allen Cottier, II.
